Going to UK on own. HELP!

Hi BM Peeps!  I just thought Id post because I need advice. Next week very last minute I am going over to London to work for 3 weeks and am petrified!! I am going on my own and never worked/ been to any country by myself.  Anytime I go anywhere on my travels I always go with friends. Sounds stupid I know considering its for such a short period of time but London is a big scary city.

Anyone have any advice on what to do when im not working when i am over there? places to go?  How to keep calm when i get nervous?  Help would be much appreciated.

Wow how exciting and very brave of you! Do you have a job organised for when you get there? As I’m not from London I’m afraid my knowledge of stuff to do there is only as good as what’s in the guide books but if you ever come to the Midlands I’m your girl to ask!  In terms of being nervous coming alone, that is only natural, however I went to South America on my own a few yrs ago and although it was so daunting at first once I got there I was so glad I went alone, because it meant I could do exactly what I wanted which considering you are only there for a short time, you don’t want to have to worry about what other people want to do and potentially miss out on something you really wanted to see.  It will also give you so much confidence and independence, and make you realise doing things by yourself isn’t as scary as you might think.  London is full of visitors and workers both from abroad and from other places in the UK so never feel like you are completely alone, there are always plenty of people willing to point you in the right direction.  If you get nervous, just take some time to have a coffee or something, think about what you want to achieve while you are there, if you ever feel home sick just remember it’s only 3 weeks and that will fly by and the last thing you want to do is get home and think ‘If only I had done...’.  This should help put things into perspective and motivate you to get the most out of your visit! Hope it goes well, and i look fwd to hearing about it! J

It would probably be best to stay near or near enough to where you will be staying.  That way you will have less chnace of being lost. Or if you do wnat to go out the area, make sure you plan it well in advance, eg. what buses, tubes etc you get. Where u staying?

My advice is don't worried london is such a great city lived there for time myself and I found it ok. It is easy get lost because its so big but the public transport is great and theres always the taxi's. Just enjoy yourself tho theres so much to see and the nightlife is good so just relax and take everything as it comes :)

London is really busy so be wary of where you go but other than that have fun! It's going to be so exciting.

One place to go is the airport on the 25th when Kim gets into london!! ;)

Have fun & be safe

Thanks for all the advice guys,  i guess i will just have to go with the flow and deal with whatever os thrown at me day by day.  I do have accommadation and job set up before i go thank god so thats one less stress. I guess i should just think of it as an adventure because not much is going on for me now in Ireland at the moment so got nothing to lose.

Estrella thats great advice. Wow u were really brave going to South America on ur own, Fair play to ya, dont think i could go that far on my own lol.

Its crazy because its like a part of me knows i will be fine but its strange how fear works and that most of the time its fear of change/different enviroment but why.

Hey Kerry, yeah i will defo try and meet Kim if I get chance when I'm in London thats for sure :) Is Kim filming more "Got to Dance" then?
